Tehuantepec and Papagayo Eddies In Satellite Altimetry
Sequence of 619 maps of SLA for the northeastern tropical Pacific region at 7-day intervals, spanning the period 14 October 1992 - 18 August 2004. For display purposes, the dynamic range of SLA is restricted to ±40 cm even though values as high as +59 cm may occur at the strongest features. Anticyclonic (cyclonic) eddies are delineated by black (magenta) lines corresponding to the +20 cm (-20 cm) contour value. The axis of the East Pacific Rise (EPR) is marked by the bold gray line.

The Galápagos Chlorophyll Plume in SeaWiFS Ocean Color
Sequence of 329 8-day composites of SeaWiFS chlorophyll-a (CHL) for the western part of the Galápagos Islands, spanning the period 7 October 1997 - 19 December 2004. Date is the midpoint in each 8-day period. Each image has been despeckled with a 3x3 median filter. The Plume is defined as the area containing CHL concentrations greater than or equal to 0.5 mg m-3, and is outlined by the black contour. The islands to the right of the images are Fernandina and Isabela.
